What is the Cheonjamun?
The Cheonjamun (千字文) is a classical Chinese poem composed in the 6th century, used for over 1,500 years as the foundational text for learning hanja (Chinese characters used in Korean). Each of its 1,000 characters is unique. Memorizing it gave a learner ~1,000 high-utility characters arranged in poetic 4-character units.
Modern Korean is written in hangul (the alphabet), but hanja appears in academic writing, names, formal documents, and Korean vocabulary etymology.
